day 1

/diary

Hello everybody back home,

For a start,  we had a smooth flight and a warm welcome in Cambridge.

Reports will follow.

On Wednesday, April 2nd, our trip to Cambridge started. We had to be at 10 o’clock at the airport of Innsbruck. At 11:40 the plane took off and we arrived at London Gatwick at 12:15 (UTC). For some of us it was the first flight, so for them it was a great experience. But also the others enjoyed the flight. When we flew over the English Channel everybody was excited because for most students it was the first time to see the Channel and the British Isles. After we had landed at London Gatwick, we walked quite a long way to get our luggage.Afterwards we went to Hampton Court Castle by coach. We spent 1 ½ hours there visiting the castle on our own. Hampton Court is the castle where Henry VIII lived. We discovered very interesting facts. Especially the Chocolate Kitchen, the different huge gardens, Henry’s Apartments and the crown were fascinating. It took us ages to get to Cambridge and so everyone was glad when we finally arrived at the centre of Cambridge at 7 pm. There were taxi drivers waiting for us to pick us up and drive us to our host families.

Today in the morning we and our teachers met at the airport of Innsbruck at 10 o'clock. One student was so intelligent and forgot his passport at home. So Paul's parents had to come to the airport and bring it. We flew "Easy Jet" and our plane set off at 11:40. The flight took about 2 hours. This was the first time to fly for a few people of our group. After we had we landed, a coach took us to the castle "Hampton Court Palace". At first we ate something because we were so hungry. Then we were allowed to go through the castle without the teachers. Then we got an audio guide, but it was a bit difficult and so we decided to go to the maze. We took a lot of photos. We went back to the castle and looked at some things in the castle. At the door there were standing "security" men, who wore red coats and we took a photo with them. They were very nice. After that we went back to the bus and drove to Cambridge for 2-3 hours. The ride was very funny. Then my roommate and I were taken by a taxi to our host family. Our family was very nice and the food was very good. They have 2 boys, 3 and 6 years old. They were very cute and we played "UNO" with them. Their names are Allesio and Fabrizio. We are very happy to be in this family.
